Church on the Lawn

This past Sunday the church I go to in Wheeling, IL called Our Savior, had church on the outside lawn. I’ve been to churches that have done this in the past and thought it was a really cool idea. I loved being able to sit outside while singing and hearing God’s word. My pastor was telling us the reason why they choose to have service on the lawn was because he wants people driving by to see  people praising God, not in a secluded building but out in the open as a community. He emphasized the fact that the building is not what makes up the church, it’s the body. I thought that was such a profound and true statement. Most of us think of church as a building we go to on Sunday, but really church is the people we worship with and are in community with everyday.

Do You Like Poetry??

This year I am taking Introduction to Poetry and at first I thought the class was going to be terrible, but then I remembered I kind of enjoy poetry. This past week we had an assignment to bring in our favorite poem. This is my favorite poem, it is titled [i carry your heart with me(i carry it in], by E.E. Cummings;

[i carry your heart with me(i carry it in], By E.E. Cummings

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in

my heart)i am never without it(anywhere

i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done

by only me is your doing,my darling)

i fear

no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want

no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)

and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant

and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows

(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud

and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows

higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)

and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)
